Submarine Museum in Groton, CT

The conning tower of the world's first nuclear-powered submarine SSN Nautilus

Shot of the Museum from the Nautilus ... in the center you may be able to make out the sail from the SSBN George Washington ... I believe I was out at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard when this sail was remove from this ship before she was permanently scrapped.

\

The gang plank to enter the ship ... permission to come aboard sir?

Jason and Karime on the Nautilus.

Ty and Michelle on the self-guided tour.

The diving officer would sit here and this is where they would drive the ship.

Torpedo room ... Jason served on the SSN Greenling and said his first 6 months were spent bunking with one of these babies in the the torpedo room.

Jason told me that they released a single swan for each of the 129 men killed on Thresher back in 1963 when she was lost ... here is a swan and gosling that are likely descendents from those original swans.

Ty and Michelle.

Mark 48 Torpedo on top and an old Polaris cruise missile in the back.

Rings showing the small diameter of the original USS Holland (first submarine built at Electric Boat) and the modern-day Trident Nuclear Sub with a diameter just over 40 feet.

And finally , note the sign which says "Do not climb" ... and, or course, note what my son, Nick, is doing :-)
